Smelts has a fresh and sweet taste with a soft, fine-flaked texture. The meat has a white color. Channel Seafoods International offers frozen, bones in, skin on, and tail on whole fish in excellent condition. Our smelt products are packed in retail ready bags. The seasonality varies around March through August. It is wild caught; using the net caught method. There are a variety of cooking methods for smelts: baking, frying, or grilling.
Serving Suggestions:
Smelts can be served with a slice of lemon to juice up the fish with a side of French fries or roasted potatoes. It can also be served with any flavorful dipping sauce.
Defrosting:
Defrost before cooking. To defrost product, keep in refrigerator overnight, or place under cold running water.
Safe Handling:
Keep product frozen until ready to use. Do not refreeze product.
